Let's Talk Hair Removal

Follow

Hello Everyone,

How are you all doing? I hope you're having good summers wherever you are (or winters, big hi to the southern hemisphere crew!) but for me, it has been a bit of a wash out so far, weeks and weeks of rain glorious rain (cheers Scotland!) but today I woke up to a sight not often seen in these parts, clear blue skies!

I suddenly realised I was going to have to deploy a skirt to get through the day without cooking myself, luckily for me, I had shaved my legs yesterday and the process went without drama and happy times were had by all, the end... Sort of.

I say sort of because I decided I'd share with you two of the tools I use on occasion for hair removal, I'm talking outside of the usual disposable razor or wax (which I still use regularly) but today we will be talking about the Magnitone Mini Lady Shaver and the No!No! Thermicon Hair Removal System.

*DISCLAIMER* : I in no way think that a person should remove their body hair unless it is a choice made for themselves, in the same way that some beauts like a pixie crop and others favour waist length locks, what you do with your body hair is your business and yours alone. I personally like to shave and this post reflects that, but to those of you who like to remain au naturel? Respect to you.

We will start with the first one I mentioned and that is the Magnitone Mini Lady Shaver.

If you're a regular visitor to this blog or my Instagram (Plug Plug) you'll know I love anything that comes in pink, it's just how I roll, so when I saw that the new Magnitone Lady Shaver comes in pink, I was excited, then I realised it looks like a mermaid shell and the excitement was at an all time high! But appearances aside, is it any good?

In short, yes. I really like this shaver, it's the first electronic shaver I've tried but I've actually been keeping it in my car. You'll probably be wondering why? Well I live MILES from anything, so sometimes I go somewhere and leave the house to pouring rain, high winds and temperatures that feel straight out of November, but when I arrive at whatever destination I'm going to a few hours later, there may be boiling hot sun.
This means I have to think ahead and pack something summery to change into should the winter gear not be suitable once I've left Westeros my home.

This can lead to sudden panic that I've not shaved my legs in two weeks due to the eternal winter of the Scottish Borders and thus, in order to wear that dress in my car boot I need to work on some deforestation (TMI?). The lady shaver is perfect for that, not only is it cute to look at but it is portable, rechargeable and quick and because you're not actually 'shaving' with a razor, you don't get any little cuts and no irritation. Job's a good'un.

Pssssst, it's also handy to have around if, like me, you're prone to ending up in rivers with your dogs when you find one and have to have random, unexpected changes... Just a little heads up there.

The No!No! is a device that is designed to gradually reduce the amount of hair regrowth you see over time. It works on the premise that if hair is damaged at the follicle, it won't return as dark or at all. This is similar to the treatment you get in laser hair removal clinics but instead of using lasers, the No!No! uses heat.

One of the things that I wasn't prepared for was the smell of using the No!No! I don't know what I was expecting but I should have considered the process of using heat to remove hair may result in a little smell, that's right ladies and gents, it smells like burning hair which caused me some serious alarm but upon investigation (#FranticGoogling) it turns out that this is completely normal. So you basically glide it over your hair then use a buffer to buff the skin clear of the burned hair and smooth everything out.

I've not been using this product long enough to see if there's a reduction in returning hair growth (I've read that this can take a few months) but it does seem to last longer than shaving. That being said, the No!No! works much better on lighter hair, I'm talking blondey hair, my hair is dark and so using the No!No! on my legs has been, well... a no no (pun intended), but it does work much better on peach-fuzz type hair and I'd be really interested to know if any of you blonde and red haired ladies or gents have tried this on your legs with better results there?

Word of warning, if you're trying the No!No! make sure to try it in an inconspicuous area first, mine is fine but I've seen some people complain of burning themselves before they get used to the motion, so stay away from that upper lip till you know what you're doing!

Do you use any of these hair removal methods?

  1. What a great post, I have heard of the No No on television and it does look very easy to use. I don't like the sounds or smell of burning though so you're right, only try this once you're used to the product for sure.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  3. I use a lot of different hair removal techniques, like epilating my legs, shaving my arm pits and, for the last year, the Philips Lumea IPL device. It did leave me underwhelmed though, it did not stop hair growth, only slowed it down a bit.

  6. I'm usually one of those super hairy ladies. I can't be bothered to shave most of the time, but when I do, I go for a classic showers shave, and it ends up taking too long. The Magnitone sounds interesting! I like that you can use it on the go. The aesthetic value doesn't hurt either. I've got to see if I can get a hold of one over here!

  9. That shaver is so cute! I love the idea of having it in your car! I might need to get one for that very reason too haha. I have the No! No! Hair too. I’ve had it for a few years actually. I honestly didn’t see any hair reduction after using it for a year (though, it did come back slower like you mentioned) & it doesn’t leave that silky smooth feeling that shaving does either. My partner tried it under his chin once though aaaaagesss ago & it hasn’t grown back since (he has dark, coarse asian hair) & now has a rectangular patch there which he hates since he’s been trying to grow it all out. So it probably does depend on each person individually. How is that smell though? XD Like the house is on fire! Thanks for your honest reviews as always!

  10. I shave my legs and use an epilator on my arms and I also tried wax and laser. Best thing that worked for me was laser, however,it is extremely expensive to continue doing it but it gives amazing results!! x

  13. I tried laser treatment recently and was really pleased with the results, but there’s no way I can afford to get it done in all the usual places I shave, plus it’s hard finding the time to fit in repeat appointments.

I thought about using an epilator and the No!No! caught my eye, but from the sounds of your review it probably wouldn’t work on my hair type.

    Cheers for the info :)

  23. Great post. I first heard of the No No! back around about... 14 years ago... which I think is when their first one came out. My friend had it when the very first one had come out. Anyways, I had heard good things about it but the smell component was the same as it is now. I am looking for an at home laser hair removal system, so this review was really timely! Thanks for sharing!
